Sayokan

Sayokan

Sayokan is a Turkish martial art, created by Nihat Yigit. Nihat Yigit started training inTaekwondo in 1973 he later moved on to Shaolin Kung Fu between 1974 – 1981. Later studying Kyokushin Kaikan Karate (1981 – 1986) and Ashihara karate (1986 – 1999).

Between 1990-1994, Yabgu Nihat Yigit went to Japan, China and Korea to investigate mainstream martial arts styles. His research lead to the creation of his new martial art system in 1990. In March 18, 1999 Sayokan emerged.

Turkish Martial Art Sayokan was founded by Nihat YIGIT. He has 30 years of experience in martial arts. He has been in 16 countries for martial arts, which are European (Germany, Netherlands, old Yugoslavia, Italy, France, Belgium, Austria, Denmark) and in the far east countries (Japan, Korea, China, Bangkok, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong).

Sayokan is a way of physical fighting for an emotionally and spiritually matured person. It is an insurance for one to defend his/her life in a life threatening dangerous situation. In peace, it will give you confidence which will be radiated and further ensure the continuity of calmness.

It is a doctrine teaches to control one self, defend oneself. Defending onself is not achieved only by physical means. People who choose only one way have no talent of communication however cultured they may be. Sayokan exist beacuse every person you encounter may not have the pozitive and humanistic intentions and may want to harm you due to your physical disadvantage or else.

Sayokan techniques can cause damage to the offender. Therefore, the intention should be only to end the harmful attack and not to damage the person but show the offender that you are a capable person.

The aim of defending is; the offender should hit you without a hit!!! If you give permission to the offender to hit you, that mean you lack. Defender should never permit offender to cause any harm.

The martial art is his lifestyle. His experience led him to realize a reform in martial arts. The result of this is Sayokan. We hope that all martial artists take its worth. Because there are many benefits for martial artists in Sayokan.

Sayokan is a reform in martial arts world and people who practice are reformists. Don’t follow the age in martial arts from backwards. Don’t carry your system on your back with your individual talents and experiences. Let Sayokan to carry you on its back. Because Sayokan has strategy, true mentality, doctrine, element of security and insurance.

It’s a system of self defence and the way of defending oneself. It is a Turkish Martial Art system.

In the system, importance is not the individual technique but the application perspective. It’s not the show off of techniques but the natural application of them is important. Techniques should be natural reaction in application and should not bear too specific details. There are two training programs in Sayokan.

1 – New Self Defence System : This is training for the shortest time (108 hours) period to learn strategic self-defence. In the shortest time to face real situation and succeed in defending yourself physically and mentally. If the person doesn’t have high technical ability, this doesn’t prevent application of Sayokan strategy. In the streets where many systems fall short, Sayokan is the assurance of self-defence and can be applied perfectly.

Sayokan is ideal for people who had an interest for martial arts but didn’t or couldn’t get training and in need of courage for self defence. It can be learned by middle aged and over people without any problem. Attacks of one to one, one to many and with weapons or without, system can be applied and used.

There are Kohai, Sempai, Koutou Sempai programs and students who finishes Sempai programs awarded 1.Dan black belt status.

2 – Knock Down System : It is in the category of world full contact systems. In the combat no protective measures worn.

In this system again, natural ability to respond is developed. Attacks of opponent are faced without carrying them into the thought level and pacified with natural reaction. Not opponents technical details but categorised character is brought forward. This way the effect of mass is broken.

Competitions made with the other systems include; Kyokushin Kaikan, Ashiara Kaikan, Seidokan, Shidokan, Enshin Kaikan, Yoshi Kaikan, Oyama (Shigeru Oyama) Karate.

The System: There are two education systems in Sayokan. First is Bravery Program A. It is for Alplik (Bravery) Games (competition). Sayokan’s games are no point, no pads, no gloves knock down system.

Second is Alplik (Bravery) Program B. This program has 10 basic strategies. It is a system of self-defense, importance is not to the individual technique but how to apply it to sparring, to make it a natural action or response when fighting.

There are two education programs in Sayokan:

1 – Bravery Program B : This is a short training course (108 hours) teach strategic self-defense. The program is designed for adults, 25 years old and above and doesn’t prepare a student for Bravery Games (championship, tournament etc.). There are forms, Tola, like kata or pumse, which must be practised with opponents.

The Founder : Turkish Martial Art Sayokan was founded by Nihat YIGIT. He was born in 1961, Salihli, Turkiye. His martial arts started with Tae Kwon Do in 1973 followed by Sholin Kung Fu.

His experience with areas used by the systems restricted with rules and looked for a system using techniques more freely (full contact, knock down system).

He started Kyokushin Karate as a student of Ferhat Ozsert Sensei in 1981. Mr. Ozsert influenced him to futher his studies and have real perspective of martial arts. He won the first place in 1981-82 Turkiye Kyokushin championship. He followed his teacher when Sensei Ozsert joined Ashihara in 1986. When Mr. Ozsert left active teaching, he felt absence of learning further and went to Japan in 1990.

He spent four years in Japan, focusing on Ashihara Karate. When he returned to Turkiye, developed Ashihara Karate. 3rd April 1993 with his five students joined world cup in Denmark and had one world champion, two third places. This was the first in Ashihara Karate.

He started Sayokan 1990, developed self defence strategies more of an educational system developing further some of Ashihara Karate’s effective techniques and adding them to numerous techniques derived from Turkish martial culture. Further development of Sayokan derived from Turkish Martial Culture such as Hilal strategy (Crescent) used by Sultan Alpaslan in Malazgirt war.

In Sayokan, strategy is more important then the technique. The mentaility behind this is, techniques can be though and used harsly but can not alone bring success without a tried and tested strategy.

Don’t carry your system on your back with your individual talents and experiences. Let Sayokan to carry you on its back. Because Sayokan has strategy, true mentality, doctrine, element of security and insurance. Of course you will be the one to make the decision.
